My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick is about Samantha Reed, the daughter of a campaigning local senator. Her life is totally in order, not a speck of dust on the newly hoovered floor. One night when she’s sitting on her rooftop, Jase Garrett climbs up next to her. Jase is one of the eight children from the messy, noisy neighbours of her house. Jase and Sam start to fall for each other, and when someone happens that changes everyone’s lives, Sam has to choose what family will save her, and what one she will save too.

I read this for the first time in July 2016, and gave it 5 stars. When I read it then I started it early in the month, then my reading slump caught up on me and I didn’t read anything until I picked up this book at the end of the month. So it technically took me nearly a month to read it the first time around but I read it in two days.

This time around I picked this up on 2 May, right around my exam. I wanted something easy, and since I had already read this I figured it would be a good pick. Then I got into attempting to revise and I didn’t pick this up again to finish until the 15th.

I loved the characters in this novel. The Garrett’s are such a lovable family and Jase is definitely my favourite, not that that’s a surprise since he is the love interest of the book. He was so lovely and kind, generally and specifically to Sam.

I could see how Sam would be a relatable character to some people, not specifically to me but I can see how a lot of people would appreciate reading her point of view.

The plot of this book is really what I love about it. Not only is it an easy, fluffy YA contemporary but the ending is just SO GOOD.

I really recommend this to everyone, it is such a fast read, contrary to the amount of time it took me to read it.. both times.
