would you rather tag (book edition)

So I’m not sure if I need to put this at the start of every tag I’m going to be putting on this blog. But I got this idea off of booktube and yeah, that’s basically it. So here’s the quick would you rather tag!!

WOULD YOU RATHER…

READ ONLY TRILOGIES OR STANDALONES?
I think I would say standalones. I love trilogies more than full series but I like quick, easy reads and standalones are definitely quicker than trilogies. Plus, contemporaries are my favourite books to read and you don’t get trilogies in that genre much.

READ ONLY FEMALE OR MALE AUTHORS?
I don’t really have a preference, but if I look at the ratio of female to male author books that I read, I would say female authors. There must just be something about them that I prefer to read, or maybe there are just more female authors in the contemporary genre.

SHOP AT BARNES & NOBLE OR AMAZON?
Amazon. I live in Scotland, so there aren’t any Barnes & Noble near me and the shipping cost is high to get it here. However, I have an Amazon Prime Membership which means I can get the books from there nice and fast and a lot cheaper than Barnes & Noble. Even if I lived in the US, I would prefer Amazon. I love reading and collecting books but I prefer to get them cheaper!

ALL BOOKS BECOME MOVIES OR TV SHOWS?
Definitely movies. I always tend to prefer the movie adaptations compared to the TV ones. For example, The Hunger Games adaptations are really amazing! I love The Maze Runner movies so far and I really liked the first two Divergent movies (don’t mention the third one to me though, it was atrocious).

READ FIVE PAGES PER DAY OR FIVE BOOKS PER WEEK?
Five books per week, if it was only five pages per day it would take sooo long to read one book and I don’t think I could only read a few books a year. I NEED TO READ!

BE A PROFESSIONAL REVIEWER OR AUTHOR?
I enjoy writing, but I think I would definitely say a professional reviewer. An author involves a lot of writing and as much as I enjoy it, I do it for fun, and if I did it for a job I would stress about it. I like reading more than writing and I love to talk, so reviewing is a better option for me.

ONLY READ YOUR TOP 20 FAVOURITE BOOKS OVER AND OVER OR ALWAYS READ NEW ONES THAT YOU HAVEN’T READ BEFORE?
I think I’d say always read new books that I haven’t read before. I love rereading books, and I’ve actually been doing it a lot more this year, but there is nothing better than finding a new story that you love. It would get boring reading the same books over and over again.

BE A LIBRARIAN OR BOOK SELLER?
Book seller 100%. I don’t really use my local library that much, it has the smallest YA section ever and it’s practically just John Green books. I also prefer to own my books, I love libraries and I think it’s amazing that so many people use them. I would never shut down a library or judge anyone for using one. I just love my mini library/collection at my house. I would still love to own my own book shop in the future! It would be so amazing, introducing people to new books and selling beautiful copies of my favourite books. I just love the idea.

ONLY READ YOUR FAVOURITE GENRE OR EVERY GENRE EXCEPT YOUR FAVOURITE?
I think I would only read my favourite genre. I love contemporary and within contemporary there are so many different subgenres, I can’t even remember one that I don’t enjoy. I don’t think I could get bored of contemporary, considering it’s the world we live in and all.

ONLY READ PHYSICAL BOOKS OR EBOOKS?
Physical books. I actually prefer reading ebooks and there are a million reasons why that is, but I love having my mini library and I love owning beautiful books. So definitely physical books.

Thank you so much for reading, love you all x

unpopular opinions book tag

So if you don’t watch YouTube and you didn’t know that BookTube was a thing, then you need to head on over to check it all out. My next post up here will be a list of some of my favourite people on YouTube who speak about books (if you wanted to know).

Anyway, this is where I got the idea for this tag. It is one of my favourite videos to watch over on YouTube and I think it’s probably just because I love a good controversial opinion on a book.

If you want to watch the original creator of the tag’s video there just click here.

A POPULAR BOOK OR SERIES THAT YOU DIDN’T LIKE

So my first instinct here is to go with The Sun Is Also A Star by Nicola Yoon. If you follow me on Goodreads or if you saw my last post, then you will know that I gave this book three stars. I really didn’t enjoy the majority of this book and considered dnf’ing it multiple times. But since it was so short and I loved Everything Everything by the author I really wanted to finish the story. I’m glad I did because this book would have been a one or two stars if I had read the ending, which I did like. But all around, I have seen so much hype for this story and I just don’t get it. Too much instalove for me.

A POPULAR BOOK OR SERIES THAT EVERYONE ELSE SEEMS TO HATE BUT YOU LOVE

The only answer I can think of for this would be Allegiant by Veronica Roth. I don’t know if it’s cheating since I only gave the book a three star rating, but nearly everyone I know has said that they wish they had never read this book and that they just hated it so much. The main reason for this is the ending and the addition of Four’s point of view. Whilst I understand why people would be annoyed, I think that it was an unexpected and bold move on Roth’s part and I loved reading from Four’s perspective. I think that the point of views could have been more distinct from each other but I did enjoy them. I also didn’t enjoy the circumstances of the ending but I still liked it and I wouldn’t change it.

A LOVE TRIANGLE WHERE THE MAIN CHARACTER ENDED UP WITH THE PERSON THAT YOU DID NOT WANT THEM TO END UP WITH OR A OTP THAT YOU DON’T LIKE

In The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins, I never wanted Katniss to end up with anybody. I didn’t hate Peeta or Gale but I didn’t love them either. So I suppose this is more of a OTP I didn’t like than the main character ending up with someone I didn’t want them to be with. I don’t really like Peeta and Katniss together. Plus, they have a really ugly ship name.

A POPULAR BOOK GENRE THAT YOU HARDLY REACH FOR

Sci-fi or historical fiction. I’m not interested in history, I always hated it in school and it just bores me. I can handle sci-fi at certain times, I don’t mind sci-fi elements in contemporary books like More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera. I enjoy sci-fi I just don’t reach for it much, but I just don’t like historical fiction.

A POPULAR OR BELOVED CHARACTER THAT YOU DO NOT LIKE

Albus Dumbledore? (From Harry Potter) I’m not sure if he is loved enough to count for this but I just hated him so much. There was just something about him, he was really selfish and I just Did. Not. Like. Him. At. All.

A POPULAR AUTHOR THAT YOU CAN’T SEEM TO GET INTO

John Green. I know he is popular with a lot of younger readers and people who don’t read much but pick up a contemporary every now and them. I just don’t love his books like everyone else, I’m planning on reading The Fault In Our Stars again sometime soon but I just didn’t love it like everyone else did and every other book of his I started reading and eventually just got bored.

A POPULAR BOOK TROPE THAT YOU’RE TIRED OF SEEING/READING

I’m not going to go with the automatic answer of love triangles here, I would love to maybe do a post all about why I love this trope some time. I’m going to go with bad family relationships. Since I mainly read Young Adult books, the main characters tend to be young enough that the live at home. But for some reason they either don’t have a family in the book or they have really bad relationships with family. I WANT A GOOD FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS IN BOOKS!! A great example where I loved the family relationships would be The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas.

A POPULAR SERIES THAT YOU HAVE NO INTEREST IN READING

I could make a full post about all of the popular series that I just have no interest in. But I’m going to go with Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs. I know a lot of people who have read and loved this series but it just does not make me a single bit interested at all. I just don’t care about the plot of this at all. It doesn’t sounds interesting to me. I’m glad other people enjoyed it though!

THE SAYING GOES “The book is always better than the movie”, BUT WHAT MOVIE OR TV SHOW ADAPTATION DO YOU PREFER MORE THAN THE BOOK?

I think a really safe bet here is The Vampire Diaries. The first seven books in this series were written by L. J. Smith. After that were was a ghost writer and Aubrey Clark involved in writing other books in the series. It’s all very confusing but all I have to say is that I tried to read the first book in this series a few years back and got bored and put it down. The TV show finished earlier this year and I watched every single episode of all eight seasons of the TV show. I think that lets you know that I preferred the TV adaptation.

So there’s my answers to this tag! I hope you enjoyed reading my unpopular opinions as much as I love reading everyone elses! Let me know your answers to the questions down below! See you in my next post, which will be a list of my favourite BookTubers!
